Deletion of a chemical

The chemical “hexanedioic acid, polymer with alpha-hydro-omega-hydroxypoly[oxy(methyl-1,2-ethanediyl)], 1,1'-methylenebis[isocyanatobenzene] and 2,2'-oxybis[ethanol]” was listed on the Australian Inventory of Chemical Substances (the Inventory) with an incorrect Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS) number 885517-97-5.

The error was corrected in the September 2018 Gazette by replacing the incorrect CAS number with the correct CAS number 1272974-90-9.

The September Gazette notice proposed deleting the incorrect CAS number 885517-97-5, which corresponds to another chemical “Hexanedioic acid, polymer with alpha-hydro-omega-hydroxypoly[oxy(methyl-1,2-ethanediyl)], 1,1'-methylenebis[4-isocyanatobenzene] and 2,2'-oxybis[ethanol]” which is not on the Inventory.  No objections to the proposed deletion were received during the legislated three month consultation period.

Therefore the entry on the Inventory with the incorrect CAS number 885517-97-5 has been deleted from the Inventory.

As a result of this deletion, the chemical represented by the CAS RN 885517-97-5 “hexanedioic acid, polymer with alpha-hydro-omega-hydroxypoly[oxy(methyl-1,2-ethanediyl)], 1,1'-methylenebis[4-isocyanatobenzene] and 2,2'-oxybis[ethanol]” is now considered to be a new chemical under Section 5 of the Act. The introduction of such a new chemical is subject to Section 21 of the Act and the associated requirements prescribed in the Regulations 1990.
