PRIORITY EXISTING CHEMICAL DI(METHOXYETHYL) PHTHALATE

Main Contents > PRIORITY EXISTING CHEMICAL DI(METHOXYETHYL) PHTHALATE

The chemical di(methoxyethyl) phthalate (DMEP, CAS No. 117-82-8) has been assessed as a priority existing chemical (PEC) under the Commonwealth Industrial Chemicals (Notification and Assessment) Act 1989 (the ICNA Act), as amended.

In accordance with the ICNA Act (Section 60D & E), the draft PEC report on DMEP was released to the applicants for factual corrections (17 February to 17 March 2014); and then for public comment (1–29 April 2014). As no requests for correction or variation of the report were received in either period, NICNAS is now publishing (in accordance with Section 60F of the ICNA Act) the final PEC report on DMEP (PEC Report No. 38). This report and a fact sheet (a plain English guide on the use and potential health effects of DMEP) are available electronically from the NICNAS website.

The publication of this report revokes the declaration of DMEP as a PEC under Section 62 of the ICNA Act. Although DMEP ceases to be a PEC following the publication of this report, please note that the secondary notification requirements under Section 64 of the ICNA Act continue to apply, including a requirement that companies provide NICNAS with any additional information that becomes available regarding adverse effects of DMEP on occupational health and safety, public health or the environment.

A printed copy of the DMEP PEC report (PEC Report No. 38) is also available on request (free of charge), by contacting NICNAS at:
