About AICS

The Australian Inventory of Chemical Substances (AICS) is a database of chemicals available for industrial use in Australia.

Before importing and/or manufacturing an industrial chemical you must check AICS to see if it is listed and if there are conditions for using it.

If a chemical is not listed on AICS—or if your intended use is different to the condition of use—it is a new industrial chemical to Australia.

Unless an exemption applies, the new industrial chemical will need to be assessed by NICNAS for risks to the environment and human health before it can be imported and/or manufactured. Read more about notifying a new chemical.

There are two sections of the AICS—public and confidential.
