Protection of commercial information

NICNAS routinely receives sensitive commercial information which, if disclosed without authorisation, could cause harm to a person or organisation, or give an unfair advantage to another entity. We have measures in place to protect the confidentiality in the information it receives.

This includes information about a chemical's identity (e.g. chemical name and CAS number) in relation to listing on the confidential section of the chemical inventory, AICS and information of a commercial nature that are eligible to be exempted from publication on the NICNAS website such as assessment reports.

For information that has been exempted from publication, NICNAS officers are prohibited by law from disclosing the information except in circumstances which are set out in the legislation.
