NICNAS Reforms

The reforms to the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme (NICNAS) aim to reduce regulatory burden on the industrial chemicals sector by streamlining assessment processes and refocusing assessment effort on higher risk industrial chemicals, while also ensuring that Australia’s robust safety standards are maintained. The reform initiative was announced in May 2015 and will be implemented by 1 September 2018.

Your feedback plays a vital role in how the reforms will be implemented.

NICNAS will issue four Consultation Papers for comment throughout 2015/16. Submissions for Consultation Paper 3 closed on 10 June 2016.
