NICNAS New Chemicals Reports and Recommendations For certificate notifications, the draft assessment report on a notifier’s chemical will be sent to the notifier for comment before final publication by NICNAS, except in the case of self-assessment.
The notifier can seek a variation to the report before it is published. The assessment certificate is issued after the report has been finalised.
NICNAS produces two types of new chemical assessment reports: Assessment report – comprised of exempt information plus the public report, provided to the notifier(s) and agencies involved
In addition, NICNAS publishes a notice in the Chemical Gazette with a summary of the assessments completed each month.
NICNAS also forwards recommendations on regulatory matters, such as exposure standards and hazardous substances, and health effects classification to Safework Australia and the Delegate and/or the Advisory Committee on Chemicals Scheduling.
Any person may apply to NICNAS for a variation of the public report on a new chemical within 28 days of publication of the Summary information in the Chemical Gazette.
