Australia and Canada Cooperative Arrangement on Industrial Chemicals

NICNAS, Environment Canada, and Health Canada signed a new Cooperative Arrangement to enhance technical cooperation and share information both new and existing industrial chemicals. This Cooperative Agreement extends the Arrangement that was in place earlier to also include existing chemicals

NICNAS Act Amendments become law

The Industrial Chemicals (Notification and Assessment) Amendment (Inventory) Bill 2011 commenced on 27 September 2011, and the amended Industrial Chemicals (Notification and Assessment) Act 1989 became available on ComLaw on 28 September 2011.

Review of 2007-09 literature on toxcological and health-effects relating to six Nanomaterials

NICNAS commissioned this technical consultancy to review and analyse available literature from 2007-2009 on six industrial nanomaterials, chosen as they were considered to already be in, or close to, commercial use in Australia. The aim of this review was to identify any available scientific evidence of important toxicological/health effects that had not been covered by the scope of previous reviews and therefore supplement currently available scientific information on these substances.

Better Regulation of Industrial Chemicals

A Better Regulation Ministerial Partnership between the Minister for Finance and Deregulation and the Minister for Health and Ageing has been established to evaluate and make recommendations on the regulatory settings for the notification, assessment and regulation of industrial chemicals.
