What is Nanotechnology? 

Nanotechnology is engineering at the atomic or molecular level. It is a group of enabling technologies that involves the manipulation of matter at the nanoscale (generally accepted as 100 nanometres or less, where a nanometer is one-billionth of a metre) to create new materials, structures and devices. At this very small scale, the chemical and physical properties of materials can change, such as colour, magnetism and the ability to conduct electricity.

Nanotechnology represents a broad range of old and new technology platforms, with application across a number of industry sectors. It presents Australia with the potential to transform and innovate its industries that must also be balanced with health, safety and environmental considerations.
