In 2006-07, 167 chemicals fell due for AICS listing on the
basis of new chemical certificates issued five years earlier. For 24 of these,
notifiers sought listing on the confidential section of the AICS. In
considering the case for confidential listing, the Director must weigh
commercial against public interest. NICNAS’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG)
provided advice to the Director on this process (see
Appendix 08).

Sixteen of the 24 applications were granted confidential
listing by the Director and there are four pending
applications. Three-year trends in outcomes for confidential listing
applications are shown in Table 17.
