Permits and Permit Categories

 

Permit notifications are required for new chemicals that will be manufactured and/or imported for a short period and in restricted quantities. There are three main permit categories:

• Commercial Evaluation Chemical (CEC)

• Low Volume Chemicals (LVC)

• Early Introduction Permit (EIP)

• Export Only Permit (EOP)

Permit applications can be made using electronic forms. Joint applications from importers or manufacturers of the same chemical are accepted - only one fee will be charged.

 

Permit applications result in the granting of a permit to the
applicant(s), and a notice to that effect is placed in the Chemical Gazette. The permit allows the importation of fixed quantities of the chemical for the duration of the permit, and contains conditions that must be adhered to.

 

Before the permit expires, an application may be made for renewal provided certain criteria are met.
