Does My Chemical Require Notification?

 

Notification means submitting an application for a new chemical to be assessed, and is required when importing and/or manufacturing a new industrial chemical that is not exempt from notification.

No further action is required in most cases if the applicant(s) determines (after reading the information in the links below) that the substance being imported and/or manufactured is not subject to new chemical notification requirements.

Information for determining whether notification is required:

• Is the substance a chemical under the NICNAS definition?

• Is the substance an industrial chemical?

• Is the substance a new industrial chemical?

• Is the new industrial chemical exempt from Notification?

Annual reporting requirements exist for all chemicals introduced under an exemption category, and advice prior to introduction is required for certain exempt categories.
