Why assess cosmetics ingedients?

 

NICNAS conducts these assessments in conjunction with the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts.

NICNAS may refer a cosmetic ingredient to the National Drugs and Poisons Schedule Committee (NDSPC) if it is sufficiently hazardous to warrant control under the State and Territories' poisons legislation.

If your cosmetic product is also a therapeutic good, NICNAS does not assess the ingredients - the TGA assesses therapeutic goods.
