What statements are NOT
permitted on a cosmetic antibacterial skin product?
In accordance with the exclusion criteria for
antibacterial skin products in the Cosmetic Standard 2007 and the NICNAS
Cosmetics Guidelines, the following statements are NOT permitted on a
cosmetic antibacterial skin product (note this is not an exhaustive
list):

Any statement regarding viruses, fungi, mould,
yeast or any microbial organism other than bacteria

Any reference to a specific disease-causing
bacterium such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus,
Salmonella spp. etc.

“Harmful” bacteria
-
Bacteria that can/may cause disease or illness
-
Bacteria than can/may make you ill/sick
-
Prevents illness/disease/infection
-
Any reference to any specific disease
-
Antiseptic
-
Medicated
-
That the product can be used before physical
contact with any person receiving medical or health care
-
Any reference to use of the product in medical or
health care facilities that is not sufficiently qualified to limit
the intended use and clearly exclude any clinical and/or surgical
use
-
That the product can be used in connection with
piercing the skin or mucous membrane, for any purpose
-
That the product can be used in connection with
any procedure associated with the risk of transmission of disease
from contact with blood or other bodily fluids
-
That the product can be used in connection with
any procedure involving venipuncture or delivery of an injection.
