Cosmetics FAQs
What statements ARE permitted on a cosmetic antibacterial skin product? In accordance with the exclusion criteria for antibacterial skin products in the Cosmetic Standard 2007 and the NICNAS Cosmetics Guidelines, the following are examples of the types of statements permitted on a cosmetic antibacterial skin product (noting that the product is subject to the Trade Practices Act 1974 regarding performance and/or failure):
Please note that the product must also comply with all of the NICNAS cosmetic requirements (that apply to all cosmetic products). In particular, the context in which the product is marketed will also contribute to determining whether a product is considered a cosmetic.
